My first close encounter with
Opeth, saw them from a distance at Wacken one year, and to summarize my
experience on a cold Monday evening in November: a-fucking-mazing!
Nothing could go wrong this
evening; the venue was sold out, the crowd was
enthusiastic
and energetic from start to finish, Opeth played a mixed show delivering the
goods and Mikael Åkerfeldt was in great shape and in a good mood.
No one could complaint about the
set-list; one highlight followed another, the played one song off their seven
latest albums (two from "Heritage" and "Ghost Reveries"), so there were
something for everyone...
I have seldom seen a band deliver
such a strong performance on stage with such ease; it seemed so effortless, even
though the technical level is as we all know extremely high.
We had a blast, and I am sure my
friend had a marvellous birthday watching Opeth kick some serious ass on
stage...
(Ohh yeah, we missed Von Hertzen
Brothers completely, but from what we heard; they would have been a better
support band on the "Heritage" tour, than on this tour).
