Evergrey has always stood out to me as one the premier power metal bands, not just because of their unique sound, but also because Tom S. Englund has always had something on his mind. Normally I don't care about the lyrically side of things, but with Tom it's like we see eye to eye and the stories he tells speak to me; we might not agree but his words make me think. To make a "best of" album covering close to fifteen years without leaving out some important songs is close to impossible, but I think that they've made a fine selection here, and have almost hit the bulls-eye with "A Decay and a Half". But the thing with best of albums is that hardcore already owns everything they've ever put out - like me - while others might be more inclined to pick up one of the regular albums. So this is basically an album for people that have no prior knowledge to Evergrey. This works as fine for me - I don't have to pay for it - but I am not so sure what value it brings for the normal power metal fan... but if you need an introduction to Evergrey and their sound and lyric universe then look no further, because this offers you great value for your money. | ||||||||||||||||||
