If you would have told the band 30 years ago that they would still be one of the top thrash metal acts in 2012, I think they would have laughed. Together with Kreator, Tankard and Sodom they've put the German thrash metal on the map. Since Schmier's return in 1999 the band is back at the level where they belong. Destruction without Schmier is like Overkill without Bobby or Metallica without James. This new album is produced by Andy Classen and sounds more natural again. "Cyanide" starts fast and heavy and is Destruction all the way. The title track and "Renegades" are decent tracks, but not the real hammers on the album. "City of Doom" is one of the tracks I enjoy the most and "Legacy of the Past" is the other one. This track with guests Tom Angelripper and Gerre is a kind of ode to the development of thrash metal through the years. The lyrics consist of many album titles like 'Zombie Attack', 'Into the Crypts of Rays', 'Legacy of the Past', 'Hell Awaits', 'Sentence of Death' etc. etc... It would be a nice quiz question: name all the album titles that you hear in the song. Perhaps something for a boring rainy day. Fans of Destruction and thrash metal in general will like this album for sure and Destruction underlines that they are still relevant after 30 years, no better yet, they still belong to the top thrash metal acts! | ||||||||||||||||||
