I suppose it comes as no surprise to you that the new Cannibal
Corpse album starts with a bang? The opening track, Demented Aggression, is a
death metal hammer par excellence with a riff which worms its way into your ears.
In fact, there are few surprises when it comes to Cannibal Corpse. You get more
or less what you expect with every release: A powerful, heads-down collection of
crushing death metal. Let's face it, Corpsegrinder and his merry men are
stalwarts of this genre - they create a stability, a death metal shoulder you
can always lean on if all else fails.
The recipe is by now well-known for Cannibal Corpse, and only strained from a
few times, for example with the very, very cool break down in Scourge of Iron
and the clean guitar intro of Followed Home Then Killed (well, as clean as it
gets with Cannibal Corpse).
In conclusion: Little new under the sun from Cannibal Corpse as expected, but
just the usual high, crushing standard from the death metal veterans. We
wouldn't have it otherwise!
