Yaotl Mictlan, "warrior(s) from the land of the dead" in the Mexican language Nahuatl was formed in 1998 in a basement in Salt Lake City, Utah, by two brothers. The lads shared a mutual passion around their Mexica and Mayan culture that initiated Yaotl Mictlan.

The band has been headhunted by Candlelight from their early days, which granted the release of the band's debut, Dentro del Manto Gris de Chaac.

The sounds blend together and inspire the listener to get to know this ancient historic time when disciplined war rituals and sacrificial offerings were common practise. The calling of the seashells mixed with blast beats and raw vocals capture the essence of the proud Mayan culture. The lyrics, inspired by the unfortunate way in which at the present time their people live in extreme self-hatred, tell many's belief that after Christians colonized Mexico their people lost their identity and succumbed to a colonized way of life.

With Dentro del Manto Gris de Chaac, the genuine conviction of Yaotl Mictlan will transport you through a foggy journey through the glorious time of distant lands.
