Chances are that you've never ever heard of this band; The Kordz arose in the wake of the civil war in Lebanon. Formed by several students at the American University of Beirut. Their take on rock music has it's foundation in the alternative rock scene with hints of metal, nicely combined with traditional Arabic harmonies. So the exotic factor is very high here and they have recorded some fine pieces of music that showcase their origin. Their music has similarities with more alternative rock acts like The Tea Party and Alice In Chains, classic rock (Led Zeppelin) as well as a few metal bands, but always with a touch of the Middle-east. For a little more than an hour they take us to every day life in the Middle-east, telling us stories about social problems, acceptance and politics, things that can be applied everywhere and not just in the strife-ridden Middle-east. "Last Call" is sort of their signature song, released back in 2004 as a maxi-single, but it is only one of many fine moments on this album. "Beauty & the East" is a diverse and alternative take on rock music today, with an oriental twist to things that sets them apart from the competition. So if you are in need of a breather from metal and want something that offers something special, then I suggest you give this one a listen... | ||||||||||||||||||
