This is a nice rediscovery for me in the bigger format of the British AOR veterans SHY. I remember their the debut album in 1983 "Once Bitten... Twice Shy" as a great album and I've got in my vinyl archive somewhere, so I was very curious about listening to Shy's a new album anno 2011. Shy's discography holds 10 studio albums, 1 "live" album and 1 "Best Of", so thye are no rookies to the rock scene in this band. In 2005 the orginal vocalist and the front man Tony Mills left for the Norwegian band TNT and Lee Small (Phenomena, Surveillance) has taken over the mike stand. Lee is in my ears not a change forthe worse, on the contrary. He fits like a glove to the Shy sound and sounds just like he was born to sing in the band. AOR fans is a devoted and demanding group and here we have an album that I must give high ratings and it's one of the top 10 best albums this year (so far). The production is world class and the sound wall is so tight and thick, that it's close to perfection. The opening song "Land of a Thousand Lies" shakes my world up with some egyptian tunes and then rinse the music over me and I floats away on the rock wave. I'm sold when next track begins and makes my feet want to dance away to the powerfull track "So Many Tears". "Blood on the Line" is another favourite with strong guitars and nice solos and with great support from the rhythm section as usual in this genre. I take my hat off and salutes the British veterans to this wonderful creation. All the tracks is elaborated and I'm having a hard time to find anything to complain about and maybe it's only the colorless black album coverfor Shy's selftitled disc that is visionless. If you are a fan of Melodic Rock, you should't miss out on this album!! SHY is: Lee Small Vocals, Steve Harris All Guitars, Roy Davis Bass, Joe Basketts Keyboard and Bob Richards on the drums. | ||||||||||||||||||
