The Australian label "100% Rock" gives us Project X's 3rd album and it's called "D Generation". It has been 15 years since the debut album was released, so it's not a band that releases albums at a regular pace. They guys plays a blend of traditional rock and power metal, with a similar sound as rock bands like Primal Fear, Hammerfall, Dream Evil and Manowar. They give us both some fast heavy metal lightning blots and a couple of down paced songs in the tracklist, so there's something for everyone.
The vocalist and guitarist Matt Williams has a real and true rock 'n' roll voice with a quite high tone mode in the throat. However this is a straight forward and classic rock album with all ingredients to make a rock party successful. I don't find any spectacular excesses with long and advanced guitar solos or other technical trials, just a simple and a groovy delivery of good tasting rock music.
I can't say that "D Generation" will be a classic rock album, because the quality of the tracks is too uneven and both the performance and the production has more to wish for. Still some of the tracks are special in my ears and that forces me to raise the rating into a higher level than I first intended to give Project X's piece of art.
Best songs on the album: "Writing on the Wall", "Last Man Standing", "Alive" and "D Generation".
