It was not with the intention to record a live DVD that Mangrove went on stage at the Gigant in Apeldoorn, Holland on June 27th 2009, no it was to present their brand new album "Beyond Reality" to a live audience for the very first time, since it was the release show on the album. But since the show was filmed by a local TV station, they must have thought: why not offer something special for the fans? And this is clearly something that can only be of interest to real hard core Mangrove fans. This is not a high-end recording with razor-sharp pictures and crystal clear sound, not this just an honest low budget recording of a band delivering their best live on stage; seeing the band perform as it happened that evening.
The show is divided into two sets; the first one is a sort of retrospect of the music up 'til that day, leading up to the second set, which is the entire "Beyond Reality" album played in its complete entity. You could say you get a best of show plus the brand new album on one evening, not a bad deal. And yes, they do change close from black to white... hence the titles of the sets! And the band rocks on a small and packed stage and the small crowd seems to enjoy the show. I am a fan of their music, which is a given if you want to take anything with you from this experience. I am not sure that this will gain them any new fans, but that was never the reason to release this DVD anyway... this is for the fans that have stood by them thru time! | ||||||||||||||||||
