French metal band Elvenstorm has made this debut album, and first time I heard it, I was left with a sense of hmm. And the more I listen the more I found that the nice and melodic vocals by Laura Ferreux, needs to be more in the front as a lead singer should be. The rhythm-section is dominated by the double bass drums by Felix Borner and a thunder bass by Damien Silvestre that in some sense is too dominant, because it makes the vocals loose some of its power. I have heard it five times and I must admit; this is a band that has great potentials to prevail in the hype with female heavy singers. Guitarist Michael Hellstrom plays some nice solos with no nonsense and his riffs have a nice ancient touch to them. The melodies are a big part of the whole album, and it works very well with the fast rhythms. Right from the start you feel that these guys know what they want with their music. Two songs stand out; “Kill the Deceiver” and “Stand Thy Fall”. I find these two outstanding as they have it all, nice intros, fast rhythm, long solos and melodic vocals. This is a fine debut and I look forward to hear more from these guys. | ||||||||||||||||||
