When a band can invite Pontus Norgren, CJ Grimmark, Thomas Vikström, Andreas Passmark and Markus Sigfridsson to be a guest on their album, they have earned their stripes already. I can remember buying their first album "Glory Thy Name'. That album made quite an impression to me back then. The melodic fast power metal with grunts and clean and powerful singing made me very happy back then. Almost six years later their fifth album is ready for release! You certainly can't call Cristian Liljegren and Jani Stefanivic lazy! Fans of the band can be happy again, Divinefire hasn't changed a lot, no better yet, they even got stronger. Especially the orchestral parts are stronger, they give the songs just a little tad more. Sometimes the band uses grunting vocals again like for example in the track "Unchain My Soul". This makes the band sound a lot heavier, some parts even come close towards death or black metal. When combining the orchestral keys with the grunts and heavy guitars, I even get a Dimmu Borgir kind of feeling. Besides the heavy parts, the bigger part is melodic orchestral power metal in the vain of Narnia, ReinXeed, Hammerfall, Rhapsody of Fire and Golden Resurrection. The biggest advantage in my opinion is the good arranged bombastic orchestral keyboard parts, they worked them out in a perfect way. This and of course the 'heavenly' vocals of Christian makes this their best album to date, although the surprise I felt with their first record is gone off course. Orchestral power metal fans that like a heavier part in their music at times should get this album, you will not regret!! If this is the music they play in heaven, I still haven't decided; heaven or hell??? Tip: The intro of the track "To Love and Forgive". | ||||||||||||||||||
