There's no
holding back on this debut EP from the young, French outfit A Subtle
Understatement. Think in lines of The Black Dahlia Murder. Modern, yes, brutal,
yes, metalcore and death metal, yeah, all of the above.
Notably, vocalist Jeremie is the voice from the grave and drags the rest of the
combo in a more brutal direction than the music actually is. The music, you see,
is not without subleties and elegant hints to a more melodic metal heroes of the
past.
With these five tracks, the young Frenchmen prove that they could easily head
into the big league of their branch of metal if they keep going at it in this
fashion. This is powerful stuff and with more than one surprising turn here and
there.
