For me, black tends to fall into two major
categories: A. Really annoying black metal and B. Intelligent, progrssive black
metal. Withershin from Sweden belong mostly to the latter category.
With its just three songs, 'The Hungering Void' is a small statement of both
furious brutality and contemplative moments that melt into a whole experience.
I like when music is produced and this wee album luckily has a fine sound. I
also like when there is variation in music - and, again, the Swedish quartet is
guilty of this as they unleash their cannonade of black/death metal with the
quiet moments.
Thumbs up!
