Crack O Dawn

Gods of Insane

Rating
Style: Modern Metal
Release date: June 11th 2010

German band Crack O Dawn was formed in 2007. The Death 'n’ Roll style they played is for a part gone. In place came a heavy kind of Nu-metal style with rap influences and Slipknot elements.

The songs have lots of variety; "To die for" is a kind of rap metal song with Yvonne Ducksworth (Jingo De Lunch) as guest. "Testify" has modern elements in it that remind me of Volbeat and the song "Mesmerized" with Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear) as guest, has a Metallica vibe. The song "Third Eye" has some Faith No More kind of passages, while other songs have the American Slipknot heaviness.

As stated above, the songs differ a lot from each other. Therefore it is not always an easy album to listen to, certainly not for the first few times. However, after a few spins you will appreciate the music more and more. These Germans have created an album with a very American sound. Without the info sheet with their names, I would not have guessed that they hail from Germany. By using many different styles, they separate themselves from a lot of other bands and even sound a bit original.

If you are a fan of modern heavy nu-metal with some rap phrases every now and then, then you can give it a listen.
