’The Lustrate Process’ is the title of the brand new release by the Swedish metal band THE PROJECT HATE MCMXCIX... and my first close encounter with the band and their music.

Even though that this album shows that we are dealing with a talented bunch of musicians I still find myself caught somewhere between heaven and hell when listening to this CD. The music is certainly not background music... no way. The music is an ever changing mix of everything from death metal, gothic metal, orchestral parts, piano parts, and even dance/techno parts. We get both growls and female (gothic) vocals from Jörgen Sandstrøm (ex Entombed / Grave, Krux, Vicious Art) and Jonna Enckell.

Well... I enjoy the music, but its music for a certain mood. It’s a very moody and melodic progressive death metal album. It is a solid piece of music, but I don’t feel like playing it over and over again. The music demands your full attention and this disc wins a little with every spin... but it tends to get a little boring after a while.

Solid... but I miss something.
