Considering I'm not a big fan of this type of Metal, Memoira was surprisingly atmospheric. A few parts tend to be kind of flat but entrance of the orchestrations and Lassi's (Keyboard/Vocals) impressive touches on the keyboard makes it more lively and gives it so much more dimension. You can also hear extensive influences of Prog on the guitars which kicks it up a notch. Though the production was poorly done, I think the music itself makes up for it.
The female vocals didn't impress me at all. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of female vocals. And though she sounds nothing like Live Kristine (here comes my analogy), in a constant and bland way, it is just as tedious. At some point, you wait for the vocals to turn itself around and dare to sound a bit perplexed, it does not. It's like when pop singers can't sing, they enhance it too much that it ends up sounding, how do say... unrealistic?
When it comes to female fronted bands, I have very high expectations. I want it to WOW me. In today's world of female (clean) vocalists, I am more along the lines of Ji-in Cho, Simone Simons, Karen Gilligan, Amanda Somerville, Floor Jansen, Sonia Pineault, Sabine Edelsbacher, Elisa C. Martín, 'Myst' and the lady in Dreamtales album 'Beyond Reality' (don't know her name). At least they are the ones I remember.
Another mystifying piece of music from Finland. Just not a big fan of the vocals. If you are into Leave's Eyes and Theatre of Tragedy, perhaps you would like this.
