Over the years, Italy has been a hotbed for bands with a genuine passion for Metal of all genres and Ever Frost certainly seem to manifest this attitude. When a band is debuting on the global scene, comparisons are inevitable and in Ever Frost’s case the most obvious ones, at least to my ears, are In Flames, Nuclear Assault, At The Gates and Sentenced. The music on offer is an interesting blend of vitriol, melody and restrained technique.

About the latter, there’s no doubt that all the band members have the technical skill to potentially immerse themselves into this genre of music and emerge on their feet rather than on their knees. Yes, this EP is highly promising and I found myself increasingly gripped by the 4 songs it contains. Italian vocalists have had a chronic problem when singing in English but Francesco ‘Lion’ Lione – Ever Frost lead vox - pulls it off relatively well, both in the abrasive parts and in the more mellow ones.

The production of “The Awakening” isn’t without its problems and the songwriting is inconsistent but, hey, the band has definitely got off to an impressive start.
