Hearing the name Power Quest, you don't have to be a genius to know what kind style of metal you can expect. The front with a magician and the title 'Master of Illusion' leaves us with nothing to guess about. The record starts with the fast double bass power metal track "Cemetary Gates". Not knowing the band from their earlier work, I expect that their home base is Italy or some Scandinavian country, but to my surprise it turns out that they are from the UK.

That I 'm not completely wrong is because some of the members are indeed from Italy. Alessio Garavello is an Italian singer, he has a good melodic and pure voice, but sometimes there could have been just some more power in it. The second song "Human Machine" is a little slower than the starting track and has a good melody. The best track to me is "Kings of Eternity", a fast very melodic song with the best vocal performance of Alessio and a good guitar solo. After that all other tracks are to safe, decent played melodic power metal tracks.

There is nothing wrong with this band, but I miss something exciting, some things you don't expect, some thrill. That is my biggest criticism. All musicians handle their instruments very well, but it is all a little to clean, safe and brave. Once I jumped up, in the song "The Vigil"; there is a phrase with a little rawer vocals that sounds promising, but that is not enough to pull this record above the masses.

If you are into some good melodic power metal, you could try this one out. However I think that the band can do much better if they put some more aggression and unexpected riffs in their music. Promising, but not there yet.
