Well... Paul Gilbert (Racer X, MR. Big) is back with a brand new solo album called ’Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar’... and it’s a very nice surprise in my book. This spanking new release is the successor to ‘Get out of My Yard’ (2006) and a way better album in my humble opinion.

Maybe it’s just me... but ‘Get out of my Yard’ never did much for me. I still find it a bit boring. But this one... I can listen to again and again... when I’m in the mood for Instrumental Rock music, of course. Paul Gilbert provides us with catchy and memorable riffs and guitar runs... and of course with blistering guitar solos. Paul Gilbert is not just a shredder but he knows how to write a catchy tune too. Just take a listen to “I cannot Tell a Lie”... a quite piece of music with a splendid melody and a phenomenal guitar solo. Or what about “Norwegian Cowbell”... Instrumental Melodic Rock of the highest level. This track is all about a simple yet very catchy guitar riff peppered with, out of this world, guitar work from Mr. Gilbert.

Almost every single track on ’Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar’ can convince me, so this album will definitely find its way into my exhausted CD-player from time to time.

Good buy :)
