I have to break down and admit that I have not made myself acquainted with the three studio releases from Swedish Nasum, although their name has been the stir-up in the grindcore genre. So be it. Ironically, I get in there with this, the brutal combo’s final release, and it is even a live recording from Japan.
And it is, I might add, a good one. From the now sadly defunct Mieszko Talarczyk’s initial ‘We’re Nasum from Sweden’ to the final ‘Thank you for your support’, there’s hardly a word uttered from the stage. I get a creeping suspicion that Nasum is not exactly all about showmanship.
The 25 minutes of unrelenting metal is what the listener gets here, and the 25 minutes show a strength in composition and brutality that leaves someone like me with a feeling that I missed out on something by not getting hold of the studio releases of Nasum. I think I will…
What I like is the fact that these 16 tracks are not just da-da-da-da-da-da grindcore but intelligent shifts in tempo and heaviness.
Worth a try, even though I assume that the studio releases might be a better introduction to the band.
