Guitarist Roger Staffelbach, whom some of you might recognize from his
work in Artension has created a new project to pursue his ambitions
to play good old school neo-classical metal, like Symphony X and
Artension used to do...
Teaming up with him is vocalist Carsten Schulz (Evidence One,
Domain), keyboard player Misteria (Winterlong, Rob Rock, Bruce
Dickinson) and drummer Rami Ali (Evidence One). Guests include bass
player Steve Di Georgio (Sadus, Testament, Death etc.), guitarist
Dave Shankle (ex-Manowar), keyboard player Ferdy Doernberg (Axel
Rudi Pell, etc.) and vocalist John West (Artension, ex-Royal Hunt).
The outcome is great piece of classic power metal with focus on
the neo-classical areas...
If you choose to record an Yngwie Malmsteen cover-version - "You
Don't Remember, I'll Never Forget" - then you are clearly in touch
with the basics in neo-classical metal, and the version is actually
very well done.
The outcome here is an action-packed album with lots of
great guitar work, brilliant guitar vs. keyboard duels and pounding
drums. Carsten Schulz' vocals are for most parts kept in the higher
end of the scale, and he does not have the strongest voice around.
The result is an acceptable performance, where John West shines
brighter and the instrumentals mark the highlights on the album.
Good one!
