The slight weirdness of The Chariot cannot be questioned. The vocalist used to be in Norma Jean, a band I’m not at all a fan of.

Good news for those who agree with me is that this is way better than the latest album from said EMO punters.

What makes it better is the slightly more straightforward and tolerable metalcore that can also be found on ‘The Fiancée’. Apart from that, you find about a zillion breaks, tempo changes, odd sounds, harmonica and even a choir of sacred harp singers on two songs (look it up on Wikipedia, it’s actually quite interesting).

The tempo is generally breathtaking, and the whole thing is over very quickly. You never really find the time to get bored (as is the case with before-mentioned Norma Jean) and that, in my book, is a sign that they do something right.

For fans of metalcore with a definite twist! Try it out – won’t hurt you.
