Italian band Raintime was formed in 1999 and their music was quite different from the style they are playing today. Back then Dream Theater was the most important source of inspiration, which led them to compose "typical" Progressive Metal.
After an all-instrumental demo CD "Jump In The Past" and a change in the line up Raintime moved towards a more aggressive and sharp style of Heavy Metal… namely Melodic Thrash/Death Metal in the same style as bands like; Soilwork, In Flames and Mercenary amongst others.
Well… I was quite impressed with their debut full-length album “Tales from Sadness” (2005)
so I was really looking forward to check out this, their brand new album titled “Flies & Lies”.
The promo I’m sitting here with contains 11 songs… and almost every single one of them is
top notch in my humble opinion. There’s a good balance between heaviness and melody…
and talking about melody… Raintime knows how to write a catchy tune. I find myself humming
the choruses in the middle of the streets, and I can’t seem to get songs like; “Flies & Lies”,
“Apeiron”, “Tears of Sorrow”, “Another Transition” and “Matrioska” out of my head.
To put it simple; Raintime just knows how to write good songs and they have a feeling for gripping melodies without losing control over the song. Good Melodic Thrash/Death doesn't need to come from Sweden… Raintime from Italy is the proof of that.
“Flies & Lies is recorded in jailhouse Studios, Horsens, Denmark and produced by Tommy Hansen (Helloween,TNT, Pretty Maids, Manticora, Hatesphere etc.).
We even have guest vocals from Tommy Hansen, Jacob Bredahl (Hatesphere) and Lars F. Jensen (Manticora). The cover artwork is done by Mattias Norén.
Get it while it’s hot!
