'The Roundhouse Tapes' is a cool live retrospect
of Opeth recorded live on November 9th 2006 at The Roundhouse
in London. Playing songs from most of their back catalogue, with songs
from seven of their eight studio albums:
'When' ("My Arms, Your Hearse")
'Ghost of Perdition' ("Ghost Reveries")
'Under the Weeping Moon' ("Orchid")
'Bleak' ("Blackwater Park")
'Face of Melinda ("Still Life")
'The Night and the Silent Water ("Morningrise")
'Windowpane' ("Damnation")
'Blackwater Park ("Blackwater Park")
'Demon of the Fall' ("My Arms, Your Hearse")
They have sadly enough neglected their masterpiece from 2002 "Deliverance".
Opeth has been caught on a good night; the sound is good and
the band is tight, and the audience is excited and energetic.
Highlight of the set is the brilliant or as Mikael Åkerfeldt so
carefully puts it: "The song that will get us chicks back-stage";
"Windowpane", but also the old black metal tunes gets a breath of
fresh air and sounds awesome live.
'The Roundhouse Tapes' is a good live recording by
one of the most unique metal bands around, and it shows the variety
in their music. Essential for Opeth fans and a cool way to be
introduced for 'non-believers'...
