Gathering a solid fan-base through
MySpace has done wonders for many up and coming bands, and In
This Moment is one of the frontrunners of this new movement.
More than 125,000 friends and more than a million plays at the end
of 2006 speaks volume.
In This Moment has only been
around since 2005, when vocalist Maria Brink and guitarist Chris
Howorth met and found a mutual standing ground, the duo quickly
wrote 5 songs and called their project In This Moment. Later
on Jeff Fabb (drums) joined the band and a demo was cut, but the
band wasn't complete until Blake Bunzel (guitars) and Jesse Landry
(bass) joined the fold.
The new songs quickly garnered them
positive response on MySpace and Century Media Records quickly
picked them up and signed them to a world wide deal, 'Beautiful
Tragedy' is their debut album, produced by Eric Rachel (Atreyu, God
Forbid).
Musically they represent the new
movement of American Metal / Hard Rock and their style should be
appealing to fans of such diverse artists as AFI, My Chemical
Romance and Atreyu. Well produced and well played metal with a at
times very angry vocalist in Maria Brink. This is certainly not my
'normal' kind of metal, but must admit that this mixture of styles
do have it moments.
The two faces of Maria, on one hand
the clean and beautiful voice and on the other hand the aggressive
and angry screaming voice does give this band an edge over most of
the other new American modern metal bands. This might never go down
as a genre classic, but does breathe some refreshing wind into an
otherwise quite uninteresting genre.
A good start, noting more, nothing
less.
