Well... I can’t exactly call myself a huge fan of HIMSA and I’m not sure that their brand new album “Summon in Thunder" will change how I feel about their music. The promo-CD I’m listening to right now contains 11 tracks... style wise quite close to bands like; At The Gates, The Haunted and Shadows Fall. Some choose to call it Metalcore... I would call it Modern Thrash Metal instead.

“Summon in Thunder” is packed with aggression and energy and they mostly Thrash like there’s no tomorrow but even after numerous listen I’m still disappointed with it. Only a few tracks have left a mark in my brain and I must admit that Johnny Pettibone’s vocals are getting on my nerves a times. A tad too monotonous for my taste.

The production done by Steve Carter, Devin Townsend and mastermind Tue Madsen is great. Crystal clear and powerful but sadly it can’t save this album from being an average experience for me. Not that I totally dislike it... no, no... There are a few guitar runs that are great, and there are a few tracks that I really like, so this album does have its moments but sadly I won’t be standing first in line at the music store to buy this release.

Fans of this genre should curse me and buy this album without second thoughts, the rest of you should take a listen before you buy.
