This is my first encounter with Hammers of Misfortune
but they have been around since the late nineties, their debut album
“The Bastard” was released in 2001 on the Tumult label and in 2003
the second album “The August Engine” came out through Cruz Del Sur
Music.
Hammers of Misfortune’s music is very hard to
categorize it! Most of it sounds like a jam session with a seventies
progressive rock band, a folk band, Last Crack and Lordian Guard.
“The Locust Years” needed twenty or twenty-five spins
before I really got hooked, it actually sounds a lot like a weird
soundtrack with great vocals, Mike Scalzi (Slough Feg) is sharing
the vocals with two female singers (Jamie Myers and Sigrid Sheie).
The songs are full of inspiration and great ideas but
sometimes it just sounds a bit too weird, listen before you buy.
Recommended tracks: “The Locust Years”, “Trot
out the Damned” & “War Anthem”.
