YES!! Finally it’s here! One of the albums I’ve been waiting for for ages!
ZION – fronted by none other than Freddy Curci!

For you out there who isn’t familiar with who this Freddy Curci-guru is, please check out the bands ALIAS and SHERIFF.

Freddy wrote AOR/Hard Rock history with the widely popular SHERIFF back in the late 70s / early 80s. Their approach was as classic as can be, but the person who augmented their success was without a doubt, Freddy Curci! Possessing one of the most fabulous voices of the genre he’s a force to be reckoned with!

For me it wasn’t until he released the landmark album with ALIAS that things REALLY started moving. If you haven’t heard that album yet, I suggest you hunt it down a.s.a.p.!! Melodic Rock heaven!

Well, fast-forward 16 years and here I am listening to the ZION project.
I might as well just get it out…. WHERE HAS HIS VOICE GONE??? :
-)

Those high-pitched leads and gutter-crawling bass tremelos??

As you might have guessed… Yes! The voice has changed….  It’s still classic in the Steve Perry (JOURNEY) / Kevin Cronin (REO SPEEDWAGON) way and luckily the music being played is true 80s sounding AOR/ Hard Rock. Cos’ if it’ hadn’t been so, this could arguably have been any other ”old-school” band out there.

Very formulaic and predictable (as I like it!) but unfortunately without the trademark Curci voice! :-(

Enjoyable style and attitude but the production could’ve been much better too… A bit ”cloudy” sound-wise….

Not exactly what I’d expected but not bad either!
