Fântomas on speed! That was my first thought when I fired up this CD for the first time. It’s loud, weird and well, weird again (maybe not that weird but definitely not mainstream either). And fast.

Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing may vary from each listener’s perspective, but I like it! The music is hard to describe because it changes style and tempo all the time (mostly fast, though).

No doubt that these Finns know their way around their instruments. Oops, that sounded as though I am going to say something bad next. I won’t. They really are competent. All of them. And fast.

The sound is distinctly Finnish. Think early Nightwish but faster (I guess they would start to get tired by this comparison by now), and thus in direct contradiction with their record label, since they apparently don’t have subwoofers in Finland . There is simply no frequencies below 200Hz whatsoever on the CD. And the snare drum has that crispy “ Europe ” sound (very Finnish).

By the way, the music on the CD is very fast-paced heavy metal. The growling vocals are well performed, and all is really very neat and nice. It would surely appeal to all those who have been thinking: “Wouldn’t it be great if Fântomas and Nightwish made a crossover band with growling instead of Tarja or Mike”? If you are one of these people, then you are in for a real big treat.
