One
of the very pleasant surprises this month is the third release from
Australian four-piece Tourettes Syndrome.
Fronted
by Michele Madden, the
Aussies drag the listener through a crazed mixture of Korn-ish nu-metal,
blues, rock and death thrash, accompanied by the at times howling and
growling, at times tender and bluesy Madden. She definitely stands out
as a true character with a brutal originality.
It
is great to hear a female fronter who accomplishes to combine the
masculine and the feminine – it somehow adds more danger to the whole
thing unlike for instance Arch Enemy where Angela Gossow is just another
male voice.
I
think we’ll hear a lot more from Tourettes Syndrome in the future if
they keep the edge of originality and if their cards are played right.
Here’s one hag who wants to hear more, that’s for sure.
In
retrospect, this is one gig I really regret having missed at Wacken
2006!
