Mansfield
based N.W.O.B.H.M. band Sparta was formed in 1980, same year they
released the “Fast Lane” single on Suspect Records, a year later the
“Angel
of Death” single was released on the same label, and they were on the
“Scene of the Crime” compilation that also featured Tyrant, Panza
Division, Manitou and Savage. Not much more was heard from the Sparta
camp since and they split up in 1987.
Now
High Roller and Hades Paradise Records has released a seven track album with
five tracks from a 1981 demo, the two tracks “Boy King” and “Angel
of Death” is really exceptional. The song from the “Scene of the
Crime” compilation “Lords of Time” and the b-side of the “Fast
Lane” single, a track called “Fighting to be Free”.
The
dueling guitars of Tony Foster and Steve Reders and the great vocals by
Karl Reders are some of the best N.W.O.B.H.M. stuff that I have ever
heard, to bad that these boys didn’t get around to make a full-length
album.
This
is an essential release for all N.W.O.B.H.M. freaks, but it is limited
to 500 copies so be quick or be sad.
Recommended
tracks: “Boy King” & “Angel of Death”.
