German band SAIDIAN was formed in 2004 by Keyboarder Markus Bohr and in 2005 they released their debut album, “For those Who Walk The Path Forlorn”, which I’m not familiar with, so I can’t compare it to this brand new release simply called “ Phoenix ”.

Actually I have ordered their debut album, but now, a year after I still haven’t received it? Well… back to their new album. When I first threw it in my CD-player I was a little disappointed and my first reaction was; - Is this EDGUY? Damn… this is very close to the style and sound of EDGUY. Of course I gave it another chance and now numerous listens later I like it a lot.

The music of SAIDIAN is very melodic. Maybe not reaching the heights of EDGUY but they come close. Some might say that they haven’t found their own style yet but I don’t care about that. This is very typical Euro Power Metal of the very melodic and traditional kind. Of course some of you out there can easily live without another Melodic Power Metal release but if that kind of Metal is your thing I’m sure that this album could please most fans out there.

We get 13 songs with a good production and they offer us some really good compositions like “Ride the Phoenix ”, “Praise the Lord”, “The Jester” and “Power and Glory”.

A few of the songs are not above average in my humble opinion and sometimes singer Markus “Angel” Engelfried is getting a bit on my nerves but most of the songs are pleasant Power Metal songs.

Maybe this review is a little incomplete but just think Melodic Metal in the same vein as EDGUY and be sure to check it out when it hit the stores in late September.

And now you have to excuse me, because I will try to hunt down their debut album right away.

Killer tracks: See above.
