The Danish Death Metallers Panzerchrist are back with their 5th album titled “Battalion Beast”. Panzerchrist was formed back in 93´94 when Michael Enevoldsen left Illdisposed and since then I have been a follower of their music.

My two favourite Panzerchrist albums are “Outpost Fort Europa” (1999) and “Soul Collector” from 2001 and I must admit I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this promo-CD to check it out. - Am I disappointed with it? – Well, yes… but only at first. Mostly because their sound has shifted from Death Metal to a mix of both Death Metal and Black Metal. The music is faster, the guitar riffs more “flowing” and the vocals from Bo Summer is more varied. He shifts between Death Metal growls and aggressive Black Metal vocals.

After a while in my CD-player “Battalion Beast” began to grow and the all-out brutality and blast parts just seem to destroy everything in sight. The more I listen to it, the more I like it. From the opening seconds of “The Lean Black Cruisers” you can tell you’re in for forty minutes of non-stop Death Metal insanity and that’s exactly what Panzerchrist delivers.

However, as mentioned above it took a while before this album really opened up for me and my favourite Panzerchrist album is still “Outpost Fort Europa”. But… Death Metal fans and even fans of Black Metal should definitely check this album out.
