Paatos
from Stockholm, Sweden is ready with their third album. Paatos
has released an album every two years - "Timeloss" from 2002
and "Kallocain" from 2004, and now this new one called: "Silence
of another Kind".
Paatos'
music covers a wide range somewhere between dark gothic rock to
symphonic art rock, which should appeal to a wide audience - fans of Björg,
Porcupine Tree and The Gathering should find something intriguing on
this album. Paatos' tour with The Gathering has clearly rubbed
off on their music... and their overall sound has moved a bit more
towards a heavier and harder style.
The
mellotron is still playing a central role in their style, as is the
female vocalist Petronella Nettermalm's moving voice - her vocal style
is the only refreshing thing on this album, and the only thing sticking
in my mind after numerous listenings...
This
is not a bad album, it flows nicely and they have written 8 good art
rock tunes - the title track is an awful collection of sounds - that I
am sure will go down easy with fans of this genre. But this melancholic
journey doesn't move me in any way; I do miss the drive and energy in
the music!
