John West of Artension and Royal Hunt fame is back with his solo-album
number 4. This is the most personal solo-disc from John, and he has
wisely stayed away from using band members from his main act - previous
albums had Andre Andersen and Vitalij Kuprij helping out quite a lot. He
is handling most of the things himself - vocals, lead guitars and
production, along with writing all of the music and lyrics.
never been any doubt that John West is an outstanding lead vocalist, and
this album is another fine example of just that. On the other hand I am
not that impressed with his writing skills, sadly most of the 11 songs
(and a short intro) drifts into mediocrity, leaving me very pleased with
his vocal performance, but bored by the music.
I do prefer John West in a more powerful and symphonic
environment. This one is for hard core John West fans only...
