I have nothing but respect for Zak Stevens; he will forever remain one of my favorite power metal vocalists. What he created with Savatage no one can ever take away from the guy.

So it is really frustrating to hear him sing on this new Circle II Circle album, because like on the previous 2 albums the only thing getting close to brilliance is Zak's vocals! He once more proves that he belongs among the very best power metal vocalists; I wish I could say the same about the compositions and his band, but not a single song stands out, each and everyone is pretty much at the same level. The guitar work fails to convince me, and the guitar sound could be a lot better...

The album is concept album dealing with the same topics as 'The Da Vinci Code' and 'Holy Blood, Holy Grail', and do check the pretty cool story out on the Circle II Circle site. And it's not a bad album; it's just not a great one either - besides Zak's vocals this one comes across without conviction and power.

Even after 10-12 spins I fail to remember a single song, but maybe it's just me and this album... not sure but give it a try if you like Zak's previous work.
