The
last Axenstar album, “The
Inquisitor” (2005), was a quite good Power Metal release and now
they are back with a brand new album called, “The Final Requiem”. This
time Axenstar is a tad more
aggressive, and that’s not a bad thing in my book, however they are
still very typically Power Metal but the songs are a tad more
“thrashy” (at times) than what I’m used
to from Axenstar.
The
production is great and the cover artwork is nice but what about the
music? Well, even after numerous listens I’m a bit disappointed. I had
expected more catchy songs… I don’t know…
maybe I’m a bit spoiled when it comes to music… but this album
doesn’t reach the heights of “The
Inquisitor” in my humble opinion.
Not
that I totally dislike this CD no, no… but some of the songs are not
above average and when I listen to
it, I suddenly find myself doing other things like; Doing the laundry
(and that’s boring, right?) or watching the
TV instead of listening to this album.
But
hey… don’t worry, most of the songs are enjoyable, just not stunning
in any way. If you need to buy every single Power Metal release out
there… you’ll need this one too, but most of
you out there can easily live without this album.
Listen
before you buy.
