If
you happen to like Nightwish, there’s a good chance that
you’ll like this German combo’s release. You know the recipe:
Female opera singer, male shouter, progressive short of metal.
Front siren Stephanie has a thinner voice than Tarja, but actually
not less beautiful.
Where
their Finnish colleagues are like a fairytale band, Atargatis have
a greater penchant for the goth vein of metal and this basically
makes the different between the twain.
“Wasteland”
is a homogenous album that rests comfortably in its own style and
displays fine musicianship. The only real minus I can think of
with this release is the male voice of bassist Lord Lornhold which
ought to be silenced immediately.
