Hi, first off all I just want to congratulate you with your debut album ‘Dust’!
Are you satisfied with it?
Harry: We are absolutely satisfied with this release! Everything turned out well from the recording sessions till the mixing part and also artwork and so on. This album combines strong conceptual lyrics about our vision of today’s society and also our musical roots with more technical rhythms and structures. I think you can see this CD as a progression in many directions. We are also happy with our new label twilight as we get really great promotion and support.
Maggo: I think this is the best Mastic Scum album till now.The new CD is a bit more brutal than the old stuff and that is exaclty what I like. I use vocals which sound more extreme and agressive and we try to mix all instruments together in a perfect way to create bulldozing music as brutal as it can get.
How did you get your name Mastic Scum?
Harry: hahaha … very long time ago! … We tried to find a name combined with the word scum as our lyrics reflect the sick society and human scum and the word masticator which stands for grind!
Who has produced and mixed your new album album?
Harry: This album was produced and mixed by me. I’m into recording and mixing stuff since 15 years and I’m happy that I’m able to produce an album for myself. Beside the fact that I love it, I hated the time pressure in the studios: searching for the best sound for a record in too less of a time or having stress at the final mixes. So I’m really happy to be able to do it by my own! Afterwards, this album was mastered by Andy Classen and we are really satisfied with the final product.
Maggo: I think that Harry did a great job this CD sounds brutal as fuck!!!
How would you describe your music to any of our readers who may not have heard of you before?
Harry: to say it simple I would describe our music as deathmetal with grindcore influences … some call it deathcore or brutalcore, some just deathmetal, some grindcore, so it’s up to you!
Maggo: Oldschool grindcore with some new deathcore influences.
Who has done the cover artwork to your album?
Harry: The artwork for this album was done by Killustrations, Bjorn Goosses. I really like his work. We did a lot of thinking and searching for the right man for this job and we are happy that we made this decision. It was hard work and a long debate until the final product but with all ideas mixed together, I am more than pleased with the result of this artwork, hell yeah!!
“Construcdead” and “A Life for a Lie” could very well be my favourite tracks. Are there any songs on the album that are special to you?
Maggo: The Consciousness in a state of mind, cause it’s the most brutal track!
Harry: My favourite tracks are Construcdead and The Will to Kill, I like both tracks on CD and also to play live because of their structure and lines and their energy!
How long do you need to practice to feel comfortable with your songs before you record them?
Harry: As I am a perfectionist - which is sometimes good and sometimes bad hahaha - for sure every thing needs to be perfect. So you got the idea…haha
Maggo: I live in another town but we try to get together and we keep a very good contact with each other. We usually arrange a lot of stuff online and by phone.
What tasks presently lie ahead for Mastic Scum?
Harry: This year we had a tour with Vader and Marduk and also a lot of other shows and festivals. We also launched a videoclip for the track Construcdead and now we try to focus all our energy on the up-coming album and for sure for the up-coming shows.
Maggo: A new brutal album and grinding a lot of stages.
Let's speculate - you have been granted a free slot on a tour of your own choice - who would be your ideal touring partners?
Harry: Fear Fatory!
Maggo: Hatebreed!

What albums or bands do you believe have had the greatest impact on the history of Hard Rock and Metal?
Harry: I think that Metallica took a big part in the metal scene! But maybe this answer can be expected from me as I m an old Metallica fan from their early days! hahaha …
Maggo: For me Pantera is THE band but I think that Slayer had a big impact for the metalscene.
