Power of Metal.dk - I am pretty sure most of our readers do not know your background, so could you start by telling us a bit about you and your musical background... Zonaria - We started off in 2002 when Simon formed the band. I joined in a couple of months after and since then we've been trying to develop and do something serious. Three years later we Cebbe joined the band and things started happening for real. We did our first tour, released a demo/ep, and released our second demo. Then we got signed by the American label Pivotal Rockordings and recorded our first full-length album with the guys from Scar Symmetry. After it was finished Marcus joined the bands. Then we did a couple of more tours with Pain, Marduk and now coming up is Vader. With that in the backpack Century Media caught an eye for us and here we are! Power of Metal.dk - The album will be out shortly, what kind of expectations do you have for it? Zonaria - I have strong believes in us as a band and on this album so I think this could open many new doors for us. Hopefully a lot of new doors and a lot of people giving us a chance listen to us for real and not judge us after just hearing one or two songs. This happens a lot when you are signed to a less know label. Of course we want to tour a lot and visit as many new countries as possible with as many different bands as possible. Power of Metal.dk - How has the response been so far? Zonaria - It's been overwhelmingly good so far. On the MySpace the good comments are raining in and those who heard the album all think it's a step forward since the last album. I've read a lot on forums and stuff and it’s all good. So I got nothing to complain on. Power of Metal.dk - What would you tell a total stranger, if he asks what kind of music you play? Zonaria - It's really heard to describe your own music because we always tend to think different from other people. But according to me we play very aggressive yet melodic and atmospheric metal. Some songs are brutal and some songs are more melodic but the never loose the heaviness. Power of Metal.dk - Who has produced and mixed the album? How does the final result compare to the idea you had going into the studio? Zonaria - Fredrik Nordstrom of Studio Fredman mixed the album. We did most of the producing our selves before we entered the studio with him but of course he came with a lot of ideas and tips too. We didn't really know what to expect when we entered the studio but we really love the sound of the album. The drums and guitars sound pretty much perfect if you ask me. Since we want to make the album the best we can, we always tend to find things we could have done better. Haha. But for the time we spent in the studio I'm more then pleased with the result. Power of Metal.dk - Tell us a bit about artwork... Zonaria - It's done by a local artist named Pär Olofsson. It scenes sometime in a not to far away future. Where human bodies are in conservation tanks and the world around it is slowly falling apart. It's kind of like the perfect humans are being saved for a better future. The cover artwork is very dark and reflects a lot of the lyrics on the album. A lot of the lyrics are written metaphorically, but it still reflects most of the content. Power of Metal.dk - Zonaria - any special story behind your name? Zonaria - Zonaria for us is what the band is. We choose the name first and foremost because we felt it reflected our music and that nobody would refer to something else then our music when they would hear it. But the name it self originates from Greek mythology. Power of Metal.dk - What's the ambition for the band on a longer term? Zonaria - We're aiming to become the biggest band in extreme metal and tour the world until we get all fed up with it. Power of Metal.dk - What are the best and worst trends in metal today? Zonaria - I can’t say anything special. It's always stupid when bands change their music completely to try to sell more albums. Of course I can understand it sometimes, you have to live. But some bands really loose the heart of their music. Power of Metal.dk - You are told that you are going to take part in an experiment where you have to live seclude for a month, and are allowed to take either 5 books or 5 albums with you. What do you choose and what would you have taken along with you and why? Zonaria - Humm. I would probably take two heavy metal magazines. Blind Guardian - Imaginations from the Other Side, Job for a Cowboy - Genesis and Hypocrisy - The Arrival. But if you ask me tomorrow I'd probably give you a different answer. Hehe. Power of Metal.dk - Thank you very much for answering my questions. Do you have any last rants for our readers? Zonaria - Thanks for the interview and hopefully we'll meet all you readers on a festival or show really soon! |
