Please give us a short
introduction of Shining Fury…
Francesco
- Shining Fury is a power metal
band from
Italy
. It was formed in 2001 by drummer Ross Lukather in order to
create fast and melodic songs. After the release of the debut
album "Last Sunrise", as a result of musical divergences
Ross split up from the old guitars and bass players. After few
weeks he founded the right people to complete de definitive
Shining Fury new line-up: Andrea Bartoletti (Bass), Francesco
Tonazzini (Guitar) and Federico Accardo (Guitar). Last summer
Shining Fury entered FP recording studios to record their second
strike! New album is called "Another Life" and will be
released on 16th of January by Metal Blade Records.
Congratulations with your new
album “Another life”, can you describe in a few words the
biggest difference between your debut album “Last Sunrise” and
the new one.
Francesco
- The
biggest differences are the lack of keyboards and the guitar
playing. However now the sound of Shining Fury is more powerful
and heavy.
How has “Another life”
been received by the media?
Francesco
- It's
early to talk about it...the release date of "Another
Life" is the 16th of this month. We are very pleased of the
final result and I hope people enjoy it.
How would you describe your
music to an outsider?
Francesco
- Uhm...I
think Modern Heavy Metal would fit.
Who and what inspire you
when you write a song? Walk us through the creation of a song?
Francesco
- Sometimes I write music when I'm
excited or when I'm sad...but I usually inspired by movies or by
books.
Which subjects do your lyrics
refer to, and who writes them? And what inspires you when you
write your lyrics?
Francesco
- The
lyrics are written by Francesco Neretti - the singer. They are
very obscure and difficult and generally speaks about real
true-life stories or own experiences.
Who has produced and mixed the
album? Are you pleased with the result?
Francesco
- "Another Life" is mixed
and mastered my Achim Kohler. We are very pleased of the result.
Achim is great producer and he has done a beautiful work.
Who has done the artwork? And
how important do you feel it is to have a great cover?
Francesco
- The cover artwork is done by Jan
Meininghaus; he also has done a lot of works for Metal Blade
Records. I think the cover artwork is really important if you want
throw out an exact message to the people.
Let’s speculate – you have
been granted a free slot on a tour of your own choice – who
would be your ideal touring partners?
Francesco
- I
don't know...there are a lot of great metal bands...I think
Brainstorm could a great band to tour together.
Do you have any touring plans?
Francesco
- No
tour confirmed yet.
How did you get the contract
with Metal Blade and how do you feel about the co-operation with
your label?
Francesco
- I
don't know really. I joined the band one year after the release of
the debut album. I know that Ross met Michael of Metal Blade back
in 1998 during the European tour with Labyrinth. Metal Blade is a
big Label, the guys are all very friendly and they are doing a
good job for us.
The Internet is a very
important source for many metal fans – how do you use the
Internet and how important is it for you and other bands?
Francesco
- Of course today it is the best way
to promote a band.
And how do you feel about the
Italian metal scene in general at the moment?
Francesco
- The
metal scene here in
Italy
is not big...but there are a lot of great bands like Rhapsody,
Lacuna Coil Labytinth, Extrema and Vision Divine. Unfortunately
these bands are most appreciated in foreign countries than here in
Italy
. I hope that one day the Italian scene will be strong as the
German.
Which song do you consider to
be the best one you have ever written?
Francesco
- I
think "Colours and Experience" is the best one I have
written in this album.
When did you start playing and
how old were you when you became interested in metal?
Francesco
- I started play guitar seven years
ago and I immediately fall in love with Heavy Metal and Death
Metal Music.
Name an album, person or event
that has had a huge influence on your life … and why?
Francesco
- I
think that my guitar teacher is the person that made me love
guitar and music. He totally influenced my life since the first time
I met him.
Which music do you listen to
at home?
Francesco
- I
usually listen to melodic - death stuff like Soilwork and Children
of Bodom, even if I like musicians like Chet Atkins and Tommy
Emmanuel

- First
