First
off all I just want to congratulate you on your new album "Phoenix". Are you satisfied with it?
Saidian - Well,
difficult question First of all: Yes! We are satisfied with the
new album, but of course there's never a song or an album which
satisfies us completely. I think if you're completely satisfied
with the things you do, you're on the best way to stagnation.
Where
do you see the main difference between your debut album
"...For Those Who Walk the Path Forlorn" and
your new album?
Saidian - We
cut off the progressive parts to reach a more catchy style of
music. We just want to play the music which we like best, because
that's the only way to be honest with yourself, the audience and
with your music itself. (Ok, that sounds extremely kitschy) And we
add some hard guitars to compensate the keyboards. So the new
album contains a bit more rock and metal (which is the kind of
music that I like best he, he, he).
How
did you get your name Saidian?
Saidian - After
several weeks and meetings we were completely assured, that we
never will find a band name...we just couldn't agree on it. One
day we met in the practicing room and one came up with obsidian (that's
the black volcano-stone) But we thought, that the "ob"
in the beginning of the word sounds like a burp, so we cut it off
and get Saidian. With this few letters we juggled and played and
finally we got Saidian which everybody likes. So, there is no
meaning in this word. It just sounds good!
Are
there any songs on the new album that are special to you?
Saidian - Well,
I've wrote four of the songs and of course, these are special to
me! But the very special song for me is "See the Light"
(I've wrote it for my girlfriend!) And naturally the song "Crown
of Creation" because of Jon Olivas fabulous guest vocals.
In
what words would you describe the music and moods of Saidian for
someone that has not heard you yet?
Saidian - For
us it is full of energy and power. That's the reason why we choose
the phoenix as a symbol for the new record. It stands for never
ending energy and a burning flame. So you see, we're a bit
overambitious!
Any
plans to go on tour? If so, when and where?
Saidian - Yes,
we will play on a festival in Switzerland in December (end of 2006
dayz) with Sodom, Destruction, Finntroll, Unrest and many other
bands (over all 32 Bands). Next year we're planning a tour in
early spring. But that's not fixed. We're in touch with a great
band, so maybe we will support this band on their tour! We'll see
*g*.
Let's
speculate - you have been granted a free slot on a tour of your
own choice - who would be your ideal touring partners?
Saidian - Mmmmh,
well... I think one of these bands could be a good choice: Stratovarious,
HammerFall, Edguy, Primal Fear/Sinner or Sonata Arctica! Maybe
Blind Guardian, too??? My
favourite choice is Britney Spears :)
What
are you doing besides Saidian, job wise as well as hobbies?
Saidian - I'm
studying to be a teacher (music and German) my hobbies: cinema
with my girl, reading and music, music, music. My band mate’s
work as piano teacher (keyboards), electrician (base), mechanist
(drums) and seller in a music store (guitar).
What
albums or bands do you believe have had the greatest impact on the
history of Metal?
Saidian - Bands:
Black Sabbath, Queen, Manowar, Savatage, Dio, Iron Maiden,
Metallica, Helloween (and hundreds of other bands!) But I think
there are several modern bands which influenced the metal-scene
like Nightwish or something like that! Albums are too many to
numerate!
What
albums have you been listening to lately? Any recent releases
catching your ear?
Saidian - I
liked the new Edguy album ("Rocket Ride") and the new
Primal Fear ("Seven Seals") but in my opinion there are
very few good releases up to now in 2006!
