Hi,
first off I just want to congratulate you on your new album
“V”.
Peter - Thanx a lot!
Why
did you break up back in the beginning of the nineties? And why
did you reunite?
Peter
- We simply needed a break. We did a lot of touring and stuff
after our 4. album with Mattias Eklundh on guitars but in '91
Mattias left to pursue a solo career. Søren Hoff then became the
guitar player and still is. So we decided in '93 to take a break!
It turned out to be rather a long break!
But
a couple of years ago MTM wanted to re-release our old albums, and
suddenly the idea came up to make a new album: FATE V.
How
has your new album been received by the media?
Peter - Mixed I think... as usual!
How
would you describe your music to an outsider?
Peter - That’s easy:
It is simply hard rock with melody and a twist.
“A
Matter of Attitude” was re-released in 2004 and “Scratch ‘n
Sniff” in 2005, but what about the “Fate” and “Cruisin’
for a Bruisin’” albums?
Peter
- MTM
will
release the other albums as well. I don’t know when.
Who
and what inspire you when you write a song?
Peter - You get inspiration from
everywhere: life in general, music, movies, books and all kinds of
stuff.
In this case the making this album was not so much a question of
inspiration, but more that we have grown older...
Who
has produced and mixed the album? Are you pleased with the result?
Peter - Tommy Hansen who also
produced our last album, “Scratch ‘n Sniff”. This time Per
had his vocals pretty much laid out in advance, so it was more or
less the drumming we worked on in the studio. Søren also knew
exactly what he would do with solos and stuff. So the main thing
for Tommy was putting the whole thing together. Tommy always does
a great job!
Do
you feel that you sound will evolve in some different direction,
in the future, or you will still follow the same path?
Peter - I don’t know. Nothing is
planned. We just do what we fell like at the moment...
Who
has done the artwork? And how important do you feel it is to have
a great cover?
Peter - I love a great cover. It’s
a part of the package. Mattias
Norén did the design and when we decided the album should be
called FATE V, he came up with a lot of ideas and the one with the
5 wolves were one of them. We liked it and it became the cover.
Do
you have any touring plans?
Peter - Lots…but nothing is
confirmed yet.
Let’s
speculate – you have been granted a free slot on a tour of your
own choice – who would be your ideal touring partners?
Peter - If you choose the musical
angle over the commercial it could be a band like Kings X?
How
do you feel about the co-operation with your label?
Peter - It is how it’s supposed to
be. Great and sometimes annoying!
The
Internet is a very important source for many metal fans – how do
you use the Internet and how important is it for you and other
bands?
Peter
- It’s pretty important these days. See for yourself at www.fateband.dk!
I use it very much. It’s a fast and great way to get
information.
And
how do you feel about the Danish metal scene in general at the
moment?
Peter - As far as I know is ok. There
is some interesting new stuff and still some good old bands around!
Which
song do you consider to be the best one you have ever written?
Peter
- That impossible for me to answer. I rate ours in the
wrong way.
When
did you start playing and how old were you when you became
interested in metal?
Peter
- I
went to see a Uriah Heep concert, and their bass player Gary Thain
blew me away. I decided to play the bass too! Can’t remember the
year. The love for rock music started out with Zeppelin, Sabbath,
Purple, and The Who and so on. It was the energy and their
attitude that appealed to me! (and still do!).
Name
an album, person or event that has had a huge influence on your
life … and why?
Peter - Like I said: that special
concert had a big influence in the way my life developed. I might
have become a musician anyway – I don’t know. But being a
musician has brought so many things into my life I wouldn’t have
been without!!
Which
music do you listen to at home?
Peter
- Impossible to list! A lot of different music and
genres – not only heavy but anything that means something to me...
Last
question - do you have any famous last words for our readers?
Peter - It is great to be back on
track!
Take
care,
Peter
