Hi, first off all I just want to congratulate you on your debut album “This Age of Silence””. Are you satisfied with it?
Anterior: Thanks very much. Yeah man really happy with it! It has turned out to be exactly what we were hoping for in terms of its sound. We have had some good reviews as well so far so it’s looking promising.
In what words would you describe the music and moods of Anterior for someone that has not heard you yet?
Anterior: Melodic Metal. Sounds like a mix of Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy, In Flames. Lots of technical guitar work with aggressive yet sublime moods. Metal as Fuck!!
How did you get your name Anterior?
Anterior: Well... when we first started the band back when we were in our teens, we were desperate for a name and none of us could decide on one that would stick. So Luke had the bright idea to open the dictionary and point at the first word at random. It happened to be Anterior!! We all thought it was cool and it stuck!! True Story!
Where did you record “This Age of Silence?
Anterior: We recorded the album with a producer called Tim Hamill at his studios; Sonic One Studio's, Llangennech in Carmarthenshire South Wales. It took us 31 days to fully complete. We had to record the acoustic track ' Stir of Echoes ' at our good friends house as we ran out of recording time at Sonic One. It turned out really good too we thought!
Where any songs scratched during the writing/recording process?
Anterior: Yeah there were a good few tracks that didn't make the album. There were also a large amount of different versions of the current tracks that we had that eventually didn't make the album. It was a case of 'not good enough, then delete it!' during the writing process!
Who has done the artwork? And how important do you feel it is to have a great cover?
Anterior: All the artwork was completed by Brian Ames at Metal Blade. We are really happy with the finished product as we feel it is really important to have a great cover/artwork. I mean the saying is don’t judge a book by its cover but in reality a lot of people do!
The internet has gotten a quite ill reputation with mp3-files available nearly everywhere. Do you see the opportunity of getting sound files of bands off the internet as a chance for bands or rather as a threat to their existence?
Anterior: To be honest we wouldn't have heard of a large amount of bands that we currently love if it wasn't for the internet. It is a very useful tool and can benefit bands greatly. We were influenced by those bands that we came to find via the net! But I mean if someone really likes a band after hearing them over the net, it is nice to purchase the album and support them but at the end of the day, for most bands, as long as they are getting heard it can only be a good thing.
Any plans to go on tour? If so, when and where?
Anterior: Yeah we have a UK tour lined up for the 18th - 24th August with the Black Dalia Murder and the Ocean.
Let's speculate - you have been granted a free slot on a tour of your own choice - who would be your ideal touring partners?
Anterior: Has to be Children of Bodom! That would be awesome!! Drunken messes every night!!
The five most important metal albums of all times, please!
Anterior: Metallica - Master of Puppets
Children of Bodom - Hatebreeder
Arch Enemy - Wages of Sin
In Flames - Reroute to Remain
Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
What would you say to a potential fan to convince him to buy “This Age of Silence” instead of something else?
Anterior: (Grabs the potential fan in a headlock) Buy the album now fucker or ill snap your neck! Only joking!
Thank you very much for participating in this interview and sharing this information and your thoughts with us!
So, finally - any words of wisdom or funny facts about the nearest future you want to share with the readers of powermetal.dk?
Anterior: Thanks very much man!
Yeah, there is...Hopefully we will be touring a country near you soon!
Keep it METTTTALLLL!!!
Cheers Guys.
