RATING:

Labyrinth has over the years made quite a few cool and innovative albums, but one stands out: ‘Return To Heaven Denied’ from 1998. And what better way to celebrate a reunion than to play in your home country, Italy and to perform your arguably best album in front of a capacity crowd at the Frontiers Metal Festival?

And the songs have stood the test of time, and the band delivers a professional and tight performance on stage. The sound improves over the evening and if it wasn’t for one thing this would have been a very cool live disc. But Roberto Tiranti does his best to disturb the evening! Who ever told him that his high pitched vocals still sound great and that he is still capable of hitting the high notes must be deaf. As long as he is singing in the midrange, he sounds great, but the high screams are really, really bad and annoying.

An live album stand or fall on the performance of the vocalist, and in this case I must say the thumbs are pointing down!

I really like the album and the live rendition is also fine, if only…

When I kicked this site off back in 2003, I had no idea that it would turn into what it has become. I am very proud of what we've done and achieved over the years. Musically I have a soft spot for 80s inspired hard rock, but my favourite music and bands are all to be found in the progressive universe these days.
