RATING:

Home court advantage, supporting your highly acclaimed new album in front of family, fans, and friends; what can possible go wrong? This must have been the idea behind this first live release from Circus Maximus, Havoc in Oslo.

The idea works to perfection. You can always argue about the set-list, but the songs they’ve chosen on this occasion are a fine cross-section of their entire career, with focus on their most recent release Havoc. Herein lies the tie breaker for fans, as Havoc saw them taking a turn away from the more progressive inspired material and towards more melodic material.

I liked Havoc, so I have no problem with the selections made for this live album, and I think this is a fine and well rounded live outing.

Havoc in Oslo is first and foremost for fans of their new direction, but also for fans of earlier stuff. Highlights for me are: ‘The Weight’, ‘Architect of Fortune’, ‘Sin’, ‘Chivalry’ and ‘Game of Life’.

When I kicked this site off back in 2003, I had no idea that it would turn into what it has become. I am very proud of what we've done and achieved over the years. Musically I have a soft spot for 80s inspired hard rock, but my favourite music and bands are all to be found in the progressive universe these days.
